3D activity - Repousse

I am a multimedia student and I'm supposed to be familiar with a lot of design programs, but honestly the least of my favorites, down at the very bottom, is 3D. So surprise, surprise when we were tasked to create something 3D in photoshop, I wasn't very enthusiastic about it.

It's a new feature in CS5 and with our teacher having background in 3D arts, it was inevitable for us not to tackle this one.

The 3D feature being taught to us is called "Repousse" and as the class was led to do the step by step procedures, in my mind I just told myself to endure and get through with it. Of course what I ended up with was this pretty plain looking design that looked like someone with no sense of colour matching had made it. And I was not going to let something like that be posted on the internet. If I'm going to show something to the world, might as well put a little bit of effort into it.

So a couple of days later I finally decided to redo it again, with a little bit of inspiration to boost me up.

A couple of tinkering here and there, had to improvise on some parts because my version didn't have the metal chrome 2 material, a little bit of adding to the whole look, and, VOILA!



I'm pretty pleased with the overall outcome of this activity. Encouraged to venture onto more 3D designing now that I know I can do it in photoshop instead of Maya or some other 3D program which makes it such a chore.

Side note: Rendering this took more time than actually making it.

Haha! Anyhow, I really like what I made, I am content, I am pleased.

Rubbish Font

We were tasked to create a rubbish font and no, it doesn't mean that we have to make a crappy font. It is based on our definition of what rubbish is.

As I did a mind mapping exercise for my own definition of rubbish I came up with words such as; dirty, imperfect, incomplete and stains. The word stain made an impact in my mind and I then started thinking of things that have been tainted. From there on, I started thinking of things that left a stain and I had one major player in mind: food.

ble things that leaves stains but due to time constraints and the lack of skill in photoshop that I possess, I decided to do a simple and traditionally made stain using coffee.

I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, given the fact that I have never experimented painting with coffee before. It actually looked pretty nice, and the smell just made me want to eat it as well, but that's another story.

ugh. This is a visual design and digital media subject after all. So I started to look at the possibilities of how I could bring character to my coffee creation.

I needed another concept and so I played around with the photograph. Thought after thought built up one after the other as I try and make something out of it. Alas, a new concept was born!

I came up with this design, transforming the coffee stain into a bloodstain. It gave me such an eerie and creepy feeling as the whole thing was coming together.

With this new design, another stain is created, a stain that is harder to remove from any other; blood.

A "toast" to success!

It all started with a piece of bread, placed under a metal contraption, and then heated up until brown and crispy. And thus toast was born!

This class activity using photoshop revolved around toast, the most delicious thing to start your day with.

I got a bit carried away with this one. I found the toast concept so simple so I decided to make it an ad for a shirt design of an online shop that sells shirts.

I thought of the "will you butter my toast" line cheesy and yes, I still giggle inside everytime I think about it. I imagine a cheesy man looking like this saying that.

HA - HA!
